Yesterday I have spent more than half an hour searching for a book in the University library. My father told me about a kind of books to search which was one of them is 'The Lexus and the Olive Tree', it’s a view of globalisation. It’s useful for my essay preparation. First I skimed the pages and I found lots of ideas and informations which it could help me to write it in my essay. There are some points which I got it useful for my essay from this book.
Drivers of Globalization
Thomas Friedman (2000) in his book ‘The Lexus and the Olive Tree’ has identified the three major drivers of Globalisation:
(i) Historical drivers - The historical aspect of these drivers are the evolution of goods, services, cultures, markets, technologies, capital, ecologies, diseases, crimes, arts, ideas, labour and people of the world.
(ii) Technological drivers - Internet has played dominant role in the Globalization process. The global transport and communications system has reduced distances, thereby bringing people and commerce closer.
(iii) Economic drivers - Globalization has created a niche that has been rapidly filled by the multinational corporations. Independent nations have corporations that export jobs to parts of the world where labour costs are lowest and play off countries and locations against each other to find the cheapest fiscal conditions.
(iv) Trade drivers - Multinationals have been investing all over the world to avoid transportation costs, import restrictions, or to take advantage of less expensive labour, capital or materials.
